East Grand Rapids Middle 2015
The kids were the real artist of this piece. I started out by giving them cards with words written on the like Hope, Community, Joy and they were tasked to draw on the reverse side an image of what that word means to them.
It took three weeks to get the mural on the wall but Holly ( The art teacher ) and the kids worked pretty much all year making the ceramic elements we applied with the tile.
On the other side of the school there is another East Grand Rapids Icon. Reeds lake was the site for an amusement park when my mother was a child and now is a great place to have a picnic, go fishing or just meditate on life. The kids had fun with all the small details. Oh and I found Nemo.

Rise School - Austin Texas 2014
The Rise school in Austin Texas is a school for autistic children. It is a fabulous school with a large group of caring teachers and staff dedicated to helping kids reach there utmost potential.
I painted this because I love the small details you don't see right away that help make a piece seem new each time you find something you hadn't seen previously.
My brother Tracy designed this piece and asked me to be apart of the construction and paint the 2D elements. We had a blast with Dan (my other brother) and Thom (my uncle) helping out. Tracy is a great artist and teacher but there is nothing harder for me then to hear your older brother bark orders at you 16 hours a day for 7 days. My only outlet in relieving frustration was throwing balls of tape at him every chance I had.

Grand Rapids Children's Museum - 2008
So since "Imagine That" has been erected it has become one of the glowing symbols of downtown Grand Rapids appearing on billboards, newscasts and magazines. I am so proud of what Tracy, Todd and I accomplished.
We love when kids can interact with our art.
Tracy did an amazing job on this eye while sitting on a bucket hunched over a sidewalk sweating profusely. Art sometime just isn't pretty.
